Research Interests

I am interested in how we as a society respond to crime. My research focuses on police interactions such as investigatory stops and the phenomenon of racialized police violence. I gladly welcome students who are interested in collaborating on research projects with me. My research projects with students have included: analyzing police use-of-force policies, analyzing violence committed against Blacks in South during Reconstruction, experimental studies of how perceptions of dangerousness and criminality are influenced by race and how rule-breaking is evaluated.
