Interlibrary Loan Copyright Guidelines & Accessibility

FAQ

Interlibrary Loan services operate within the guidelines of U.S. copyright law while striving to provide equitable access to information.

The ILL service allows users to obtain copyrighted material from other libraries if that material is intended  for private study and research. It may not be shared with others or used for profit. Faculty may not use ILL to request materials for Course Reserves. For Course Reserves questions, please contact us directly at libcirc@cpp.edu or 909-869-3615.

When possible, the library provides materials in formats that support accessibility, such as searchable PDFs or digital text that can be used with assistive technologies. In some cases, copyright restrictions may limit the ability to modify or redistribute certain materials. However, libraries work within these guidelines to provide reasonable accommodation for users who require accessible formats.

Below is a brief introduction to copyright as it applies to ILL. Please contact the CPP ILL team directly at libldrs@cpp.edu or 909-869-3111 if you have specific questions.

WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States () governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

Interlibrary Loan Copyright Information

You may request one chapter from a book through Interlibrary Loan under . If you require more than one chapter, please submit a request for the complete book.

According to the , the ILL department is limited to requesting no more than five articles from the same journal title published within the last five years during a single calendar year. This restriction applies to the entire library, not just individual users.

Accessible Documents

To align with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (), the Interlibrary Loan service is committed to supporting equitable access to library resources by assisting users who need materials in accessible formats. If a requested item is not available in a format compatible with assistive technologies, the library will make every reasonable effort to locate or provide an accessible version when possible.
